I've worked out an easy method for cutting down the old banana trees that die once the fruit has been harvested. It's easy to cut through the trunk with a sharp tooth hand saw and I cut them up in manageable segments so they easier fit in the garden waste bin. I've tried composting banana trees and peels but you need alot of space. Bananas are rich in nitrogen so you can't grow veg on top of banana waste without diluting it with other compost - too much nitrogen leads to long leafy grow and no fruit/veg. This method of culling the trees works well, it lets light in and allows the young trees to grow up and take over the space.
